It was all straight forward during our stay. Check in was quick into our dormitory on 2nd floor (no lift) and they explained where everything was and how it worked. Mixed dormitory with 8 others but that was fine. No one snored The beds were nice with sockets/USB-ports for charging by every bed and small lockers for valuables by the wall. No big lockers and linens are charged extra, but we had sleeping bags so no problem for us. Toilets were close and clean and showers in the basement were also very nice. They had a washer and dryer that you paid for with quick programs that we used and worked perfectly and the kitchen had everything you needed.
Would definitely stay again
The rooms were exceptionally clean as were the washrooms and shower facilities. An added bonus was the restaurant and bar. The staff was very friendly and willing to help.
It was a great place to stay as I was passing through.
Backpackers is clearly the liveliest place in town. Now admittedly we were there for the World Cup Semi final but it was buzzing. The crowd was eclectic covering a broad spectrum of ages and nationalities.
The beer is good, the food is decent pub grub with sensible portions.
It’s clearly a great place to hang out, meet people and enjoy a beer or three.
My only criticism is the result of the Semi went the wrong way, but that probably wasn’t their fault.
Wonderful hostel in the center of Akureyri! Stayed only 1 day in June 2013., because of roundtrip along Iceland, but all 5 of us wished to stay much longer. Design of hostel (furniture, for example to point some, like seats from bus in lounge room, wooden barn doors in toilet, cute place to chill with coffee/tea/book on first floor, funny notes all around the place etc.) and friendly staff at the reception desk is something which puts this hostel high on my 'Had to go back list'! Btw. And we even had sunny, warm, clear sky weather which was unfortunately not the case in Reykjavik. All the best from Croatia.
