Where is Akureyri Backpackers? Well, we‘re slap bang in the middle of town, located on the main street in downtown Akureyri. This means we‘re extremely confident you won‘t get lost and forget where we are. Check out the street view from google
We think our location is perfect for a number of reasons. Shopping is a hop, skip and a jump away, sightseeing is right on our door step and getting around couldn‘t be easier. We‘re surrounded by coffee houses, bars and restaurants and there‘s always something going on.
Looking to connect with nature? The lovely geothermally heated swimming pool is just a minute away, as is the world‘s most northerly botanical garden (with a fantastic cafe) and did we mention there‘s a great fjord, Eyjafjörður, with mountain views just around the corner!
From Akureyri domestic airport
The easiest way to get to Akureyri Backpackers from the airport is by a taxi. Just tell your driver you're after Akureyri Backpackers and you'll be taken to our doorstep. If the weather is nice and you‘re up for a stroll, you can also walk. It's not that far, about 3km, and you can enjoy the stunning views of surrounding Icelandic mountains and our lovely fjörd, Eyjafjörður.
From Akureyri bus station
It's only about 5 minutes’ walk from the bus station. If you’re arriving by bus just head to the town center, we can’t be missed. We‘re at Hafnarstræti 98.
Driving on your own
Driving from Reykjavík, Húsavík or Lake Myvatn? When you enter Akureyri follow road no. 1 which goes through the town (called Drottningarbraut). Drottingarbraut goes right through the town. Coming from Lake Myvatn you turn left. Coming from Reykjavik the fjord is on your left hand side and you turn right. Take a right turn to a street called Kaupvangsstraeti (away from the sea) and you'll see our sign by the second turn to the right.
